Silver Member Username: MrdarkPost Number: 128 Registered: Dec-04 | it was tough without the above tools mentioned that's for sure! but it'll still be worth it I hope! that is just my driver side, If I like it, Then I'm going for my passenger side also. |
Silver Member Username: ScubasteveCollege Park, MD Post Number: 576 Registered: May-05 | did you fleece it yet matt? Anway, however it comes out, it'll be better than stock so you might as well go for it. |
Silver Member Username: MrdarkPost Number: 130 Registered: Dec-04 | ya, it's fleeced...problem now is should I mount it with screws to the doorframe and then put the trim over it, or keep it mounted on the trim? I ask this because it is hard to fit the trim over the wood, especially now that it is fleeced and resined..and taking the trim off is just as hard. I'll post more pics tho..So far I have only done the driveres side hehe. |
Silver Member Username: ScubasteveCollege Park, MD Post Number: 578 Registered: May-05 | well I can't picture exactly what you mean, but from what I think is going on, this is what I'd do. Add a couple layers of fiberglass to the inside, that way you can sand down the outside where the fleece is as much as you need to make it fit. Now what you'll want to do is only screw it into the sheet metal of the door, not the plastic door panel that covers it. This will leave the stock apperance but could introduce vibrations. To combat this, either use silcon between the panel and the enclosure or for a less permanent solution, weatherstripping or deadener will work. |

How do you plan to finish the surface and make a new grill? |
Silver Member Username: MrdarkPost Number: 132 Registered: Dec-04 | i plan to reuse the grill |

Silver Member Username: DozyproductionsSan Diego, California United States Post Number: 150 Registered: Jun-05 | hey matt. Im looking to do a similar thing. What did you do for the very back portion of the pod? (very back where its really in the door) Is that just how it came? in my car you take out the speaker and BAM you have the window so i was thinking i have to build some wooden ring/frame and fleece it and then attach to the rest of the project. |
Silver Member Username: MrdarkPost Number: 134 Registered: Dec-04 | Dozy, are u talking about the most-inner depth? I just used a coffee can for a mold and fg'd around the can, then cut accordingly. |
Silver Member Username: DozyproductionsSan Diego, California United States Post Number: 151 Registered: Jun-05 | yeah that is what i was talknig about. And then after you took out the can you just added that mold to the rest of your mold by merely adding mat to connect the pieces? |
Silver Member Username: MrdarkPost Number: 135 Registered: Dec-04 | yesir! and scuba steve, here are the pics with the grill: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a145/urgeone/caraudiogrill1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a145/urgeone/grill2.jpg |
Silver Member Username: ScubasteveCollege Park, MD Post Number: 600 Registered: May-05 | oh I see, its lucky that you have a grill that fits over the speakers without having to flush mount them. |
