Samsung DLP question

Hey all,
Been reading some of the posts here as an unregistered guest. Now have a question of my own, so decided to sign up. Everyone has been very informative (Tom Bong, you are hilarious. I look forward to new posts from you in the mornings).. Anyway.. Here's my question..

Just purchased a HLR4266W. Love it so far.. My question is in regards to the whole DNIe thing.. Now I understand that on the "R's" you can not turn the feature off.. You only have a demo option. When I bring up the demo, no matter what I am looking at, my actual picture always looks like the "DNIe off" side. Is this normal? Am I just lucky enough that the DNIe is not on? I've tested this on multiple sources, TV, DVD and I am quite sure that when I bring up the demo, and put it back down, my TV returns to looking like the side that says "off". I have even brought people in to the room to verify this.

Thoughts?

Yah I know..There is a azz for every seat......

Some people have to learn the hard way. Its the way of the world. Can't save everybody. There will always be the idiots who refuse to evacuate and think they will be the exception.

Oh stop guys..
Tom, I understand you're position.. You are to Samsung DLP, what I am to Sony Playstion, Apple computers, Ford and Napolean Dynamite.. Some people may like them, but I hate them, even though I don't use or own them.

My family, and I, have owned projection TVs for a while. We even had one of those hulking Mitsubishi models that takes up half a wall and is bigger than a bedroom amoire. God, Nintendo looked awesome on that thing. I've done my research on these things and came to the conclusion that I absolutely hate LCD and was up in the air about Plasma. I got an awesome deal on the DLP that was $700 cheaper than the Plasma that I was thinking about getting.
I have a 4 year warranty on the DLP which includes bulbs, so I am not worried about that. Yes, I will keep an extra bulb to not have downtime, and when they come to the house to service the TV, I will just switch out the backup bulb and put the bad one back in.
I'm a pretty ruthless consumer who is used to getting his way, so if this DLP does not pan out, who knows, maybe I will end up with a Plasma. But for now..
Seriously.. No one has ever seen this happen before? Truthfully I'm hoping that the DNIe is off. I dislike any type of color enhancement/correction, so that would be great if it was off.. Was hoping that someone else could do the demo on their set to see if they notice this happen.

Regards,
Paul

Paul,

I have the HL-R5067W. I have found that the DNIE demo mode takes over both halves of the screen for the demonstration by altering the contrast. It does not leave the left half in the same "On" mode as if the demo was not in use.

During the demo, dark scenes become lighter and light scenes become darker on both sides, but the sharper, clearer, more colorful image is the left half, which is "On". I recorded this on my DVR. Then I switched the demo off and recorded the same HD program, "Cheetah", normally. Using my pause feature I was able to determine that the normal recording is the same clarity and color as the recording of the left "On" side of the demo. The contrast was slightly different, though.

I think it would be better if the demo mode did not take over both halves of the screen by altering the contrast. Something tells me that the demo mode must revert to default user settings of contrast and brightness.

>>>refuse to evacuate"

Now that's funny!<<<

Could'nt resist given the times and all.

Now Paul I am very proud of you. You did all you had to and spend more then you had toto enjoy your RP micro display. As for me when Im ready I will buy a flat panel display at Costco. No EW no extra parts to store.

FYI When one can buy a flat panel display at 50" for $1500 micro diplay RP is history. That time is coming sooner then you thnk. Samsung is prepaered, Sony is Prepared,,,ALL the makers are prepared with flat panel displays..........Texas Instuments welll thetas another story. They had better make it while they can.

Yea...where are those 50 to 70 inch flat panel displays?

I guess the LCOS would fit the bill, but I'm not so sure about those yet.

They will be here. Already Costco had a 50" Plasma for $400 off and sold all of them within days across the country. The final proce was $2600. Not bad for a lifetime warranted HD Plasma. Actually I think Lcos may be a good technology as the Qualias are selling as fast as they make them, BUt still needs the lamp.

Already Wal Mart is selling 42" Plasmas for less then $2000. With 189 EWs for those who worry alot.

50" is my sweet spot for size. I would rather not see artfacts magnifiedpast that and especially standard TV. 70" is too big for my taste.

IN fact even if you buy at Costco online you can return it to a LOCAL Costco if it fails or you don't like it.

Tom,
My biggest regret right now is not knowing about Costco. If I had known about their policies, etc, I probably would have gone with them. I wish I would have found this site before I purchased my television, but, oh well, can't cry over that now.
42" is the biggest that I could go with the size of the room that I am dealing with. I'm happy with my purchase, and the 4 year warranty will pretty much pay for itself with bulb replacements I am guessing. And truthfully, in about 5 years, I will probably be ready to buy a new television anyway. By that time, I'm sure they will probably have worked out all the things I don't like about Plasma and LCD's. Who knows, something new will probbly be out by then.
Now though, I couldn't be happier with my first HD purchase. Can't wait for the cable guy to get here next week. I truhfully would have liked a little more time to research (I probably would have found out about Costco) but I sortta impulse bought since my original 36" Sony was stolen on my move down to GA from NJ. I miss that bulky 300lb beast..

FYI - thanks for checking.. I still don't understand what the whole deal with that demo is since my screen looks nothing like what the "on" size says.. Whatever..
