I know 2 subs over 1 sub with the same amp gives a +3dB gain. Is it generally true that a ported box (tuned to specs) gives a +3dB gain over a sealed box?
If this is so, then will one 12" sub in a ported box be equally as loud as two 12" subs in a sealed box, if the same amp is used in each case???
Also what does doubling the amp power yield in a dB gain?
doubling the power to 1 sub = +3db doubling the power to 2 sub = +6db going from sealed to ported = +3db going from 1 sub at full power to 2 w/same power = +3db going from 1 sub at full power to 2 and have full power to each = +6db
i don't think that the one 12" ported will be louder than 2 subs sealed. you still have twice the surface area in the sealed box.
in theory, both setups should be about the same, but if you can give full power to each of the subs in the sealed enclosure, then that would be the louder setup.
well i have that PA set-up now, i just was seeing if it's worth upgrading to the SX and the RE 12.1 amp....like if it will be ne louder than what i have now...
