Is it in general true that the sharper the rolloff the better it is for crossover circuit i.e. 18dB/octave is better than say 12 or 6dB/octave? Or do you prefer some rolloff so that some overlap happens to allow for smoother integration among speakers ( i hope i make some sense ).
The Alpine CDA 9815 has adjustable slopes of 6,12,18,24 dB/octave, the common choice is 12dB/octave, but in general how do you go about to decide? Glass, your input is welcome. Thanks
the rolloff you want depends on the setup and the speakers. I usually use about a 12dB/octave rolloff for mids, 18 to 24dB for tweeters, and 12 to 18dB for subs.. generally. if you're rolling off from a 5.25" mid to a 15" sub, you want shallower, like 6dB for the mids, and 12dB for subs.. you want the rolloff overlaps to make up for the gaps in freq. since a mid will cut off around 100-150Hz or higher, and a sub usually starts at about 80Hz.
