on my stereo there is an 'AUX' setting. what is this? what does it do??

"Aux" is short for "Auxiliary", and identifies an input.

what do i input to it?? can i hook my computer up to it?? so i can use the stereo to play the audio from music and video instead of the sh*t speakers i have

Yes, anything. You need to connect the source, which can be a computer, to the stereo. Connect the audio output of the source to the stereo's aux input, using whatever fits. A mini-jack or a pair of RCA plugs can be at either end of the connector. There should be an aux input on the stereo. Switch to "AUX" to select it.

To add to John's post - the only thing that won't work in the AUX is a turn table. If the turn table has a pre-amp built into it - very few do - then it will work.
