New member Username: GrenadePost Number: 6 Registered: Aug-05 | like 300 |
Silver Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana USA Post Number: 850 Registered: Mar-04 | if you have $300 for an amp, look at somethink like an orion 1200d, kx1200.1, eD nine.1, or RE 12.1 forget audiobahn and kenwood |
New member Username: GrenadePost Number: 7 Registered: Aug-05 | i have 2 kicker s12L7 12" subs 1500rms for both ...that calls for a 2 channel amp correct? |
Silver Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana USA Post Number: 851 Registered: Mar-04 | no...you can run 2 subs on a mono amp. what voice coil config do you have? |
Bronze Member Username: James_gTN Post Number: 84 Registered: Jul-05 | Definitely need to know if they are SVC or DVC and if they are 4 ohm. You need to go with a Mono amp for your subs. |
New member Username: GrenadePost Number: 8 Registered: Aug-05 | dual 4ohm |
Silver Member Username: RovinTrinidad & T... Post Number: 132 Registered: Jul-05 | if u got dual 4ohm coils then it'll be 1 ohm if both subs are connected together . Only amp that comes to mind is around $300($340 actually) is Hifonics Brutus 2005D (rated 2000rms @ 1ohm) - ppl on this forum say they're overated so u should still get the 1500rms u need . |
New member Username: GrenadePost Number: 9 Registered: Aug-05 | 340$ from where? is that a decent amp? |
Bronze Member Username: James_gTN Post Number: 87 Registered: Jul-05 | It can actually be wired at 1 ohm or 4 ohms, but I would personally go with 1 ohm. I would go with the Orion, Kicker, or one of the others mentioned above. I've read message after message on these forums about Hifonics amps running extremely hot at 1 ohm and only lasting a very short time. |
New member Username: GrenadePost Number: 10 Registered: Aug-05 | dont go with a 2 chanell amp for my 2 kickers...go with a mono ...correct? |
Silver Member Username: Kd7nfrMontpelier, ID United States Post Number: 721 Registered: Apr-05 | For a little more you can get an Orion 1200D... And yes, get a Class D (which is mono) amp. |
Silver Member Username: RovinTrinidad & T... Post Number: 134 Registered: Jul-05 | Yes a MONO amp is best for subs. Well he did set the price range @ $300 - so that was the cheapest i could find -lol. Personally i would save up & buy Orion 1200D $430 ,it's 1200wrms so u got power to spare & amp would run cooler too . |
Silver Member Username: RovinTrinidad & T... Post Number: 135 Registered: Jul-05 | OOPS -i typed in wrong brand ,wrong model ,wrong price . He needs 1500wrms & not 1000wrms as he thought above . I'll check out some more options very soon ............ |
Bronze Member Username: GrenadePost Number: 11 Registered: Aug-05 | thanks,,,i mite do that...just go with the orion...id rather have it running cooler anyway so it lasts longer...thanks alot any other suggestions just throw em out there |
Silver Member Username: RovinTrinidad & T... Post Number: 136 Registered: Jul-05 | In the 1500wrms range choices are limited as there isn't much models to choose from & some CA$H is needed. Cadence Z777DG - Cadence 1600 Watt Mono Amplifier $683 ....1600wrms OR Diamond Audio D61500.1 - Diamond Audio Amplifier $582.....1500wrms www.woofersetc.com check them out & see what u can afford ........ |
Bronze Member Username: GrenadePost Number: 12 Registered: Aug-05 | is it better to have a smaller wattage amp than the sub wattage or smaller sub wattage than the amp wattage |
Silver Member Username: RovinTrinidad & T... Post Number: 137 Registered: Jul-05 | Its always a better to get an amp about 20/25 more power than u actually need for reasons i said before (i read that on a few sites on the web) ,just be carefull with the gains setting though ! |
Bronze Member Username: GrenadePost Number: 14 Registered: Aug-05 | does it hurt it to have the amp smaller than the sub |
Silver Member Username: RovinTrinidad & T... Post Number: 141 Registered: Jul-05 | yep , i read too little power causes distortion & coil overheating thus ruining subs much easier than actually overpowering . www.bcae1.com they explained it very nicely . |
Silver Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana USA Post Number: 854 Registered: Mar-04 | If you would rather buy a brand new amp than an used one. I would highly suggest an eD nine.1 or an RE 12.1. These amps will produce 1200wrms and then some. Plus they are only a little out of your price range and you get a 3yr warranty on both of them. You could just save a little move and go w/ one of these. I think they are ~$360+ship. or you could go on ebay and look for a used amp...something like a kicker kx1200.1, jbl bp1200.1, hifonics 1605, or something along those lines. |
Gold Member Username: CarguyPost Number: 3975 Registered: Nov-04 | Just curious, if you're going to purchase amps that are 1000w+, then call their tech support line and ask if the rms power numbers are "continuous". I know Hifonics is not. Don't you all wonder why Hifonics/Sony/Pyramid/Lanzar etc, their 1000w rms amps are under $200? Compare that to Zapco/JL's 1000w. You are not getting the same power nor quality. And it's not matter of overrated numbers. Even if those cheap amps could hit 1000w, it will only be for a fraction of a sec. |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfWisteria, Lane USA Post Number: 9483 Registered: Dec-03 | for a pair of dual 4 ohm L7s, I'd get theKicker KX1200.1 or the Hifonics brutus 1500d either amp will be 1 ohm stable and give the pwoer you need |
Bronze Member Username: GrenadePost Number: 15 Registered: Aug-05 | what do you think about the orion 1200d ... is it any good? |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfWisteria, Lane USA Post Number: 9512 Registered: Dec-03 | orion's amps are good. anything by DEI does the job. |
Silver Member Username: Kd7nfrMontpelier, ID United States Post Number: 730 Registered: Apr-05 | I remember an article showing Hifonics compared to EdNine. Boards were almost identicle... Maybe I'm wrong? |
