Samsung is supposed to be coming out with a 34 inch CRT that is half the depth of current CRT TV's. Anyone else been hearing about this? Samsung Vixlim is what it's called.

Yes I have heard about this, it is 40% thinner than current tube TV's with a way, way crisper picture than LCD and plasma. From what I keep hearing it's going to be way, way, cheaper than LCD and plasma. And it will take up the same space as a LCD (An LCD with a stand). Just goes to show you that you can teach an old dog new tricks. This technology looks very promising, plus it will be really atractive to those who want a plasma, but don't have plasma money. It will give CRT a new lease on life. The only "minus" is that you cannot hang it on a wall. But as this technology advances i'm sure that will change.

This is great! LG Philips is coming out with it first and it's called Cybertube+ SuperSlim. They only have a max size of 32" Widescreen though.

If they are priced the same way as regular CRTs then it will make those obsolete! Initial pricing is between a regular CRT and a plasma/LCD panel. Although I don't expect its prices to come down at first release, maybe if you wait a few months.

This is interesting! Hope they can make it work and get the price down to a decent level. It would be the best thing ever because CRT is said to have the best contrast ratio out of ANY display technology currently on the market.

Circuit City has the Samsung Slimfit on their website now. $950.00

Just an FYI.

If you buy Samsung, always get the extended warranty. You'll probably need it.

I was considering one of these and checked them out at different stores. To me the picture is not really sharp and it seems to be worse at how straight vertical lines are than other tvs I compared it against. It claims a very high contrast ratio but I was disappointed overall.

Wait for the SED displays coming from Canon/Toshiba joint venture early next year. CRT technology in an even thinner package than Samsung's Slimfit HDTV. The two sizes available will be 40" and 50" at 1080p Hi-Def - not 1080i.
