Box Question Unregistered guest | Here is what i am wondering. Right now i have a generic sealed box for my alpine type R subwoofer. 2005 model SWR-1242D. I want to build a ported enclosure for it because i heard they sound so much better in a proper ported enclosure. They are crap in sealed. Now..they sound ok to me..but i would think they could get ALOT louder given the proper tuning/dimensions and all that. Now what i need is a program or some designs that would layout what materials i would need, how to make the port, what to make the port out of. etc etc etc. If anyone has any links to any programs out there it would be a great help. This is my first box that i am building, so i want to do it right. Im also going to be driving it with 850 watts. Slightly more than reccomended..but i hear they can handle it without a problem. |

Vent Area/ (Dimensions) = 15©÷/ (12" x 1.25") Vent length = 22.75" Vent Displacement = 0.305 ft©o Net Internal Volume = 1.3 ft©o F©o,Ripple,Fi = 33 hz, 2.5db, 36hz u can use this box and im sure it will perform pretty good.. it might be a little tough since your going right into a ported box as your first.. ur gonna want to get some 3/4 MDF medium density fibreboard from home depot or something.. u will need a jigsaw- works the best IMO since u can cut holes for the sub with it to ... your basic tools , Level or strait edge, framing square, Clamps And or screw gun to hold the pieces together while the glue dries(remember to pre drill holes so the wood doesnt crack) I also recommend 90¢ Clamps.. holds the pieces square , some good cabinet glue, (somebody feel free to add anything if i forgot). as for making the port.. it will be a "slot port" which simply means it is build into the box using Mdf (looks like a slot)... u gotta make sure when making a slot port to glue the right pieces on first.. leave the top off so you can put your slot pieces on... you will notice the slot length is longer than any of the box sides..so what u have to do is turn the vent around a corner of it.. how u measure it is using the centerline of the port.. and finally , IF u have to go out and buy a ton of tools to build a box id just get a shop to do it for you unless u plan on making a hobby of it. |

Box Question Unregistered guest | Awesome! Thanks for your help. Right now i have the gains set a little below what my preouts on my head unit are, once i go to vented i will most likely drop it down to 3 volts on the amp. the preouts are 2 volts on the head unit. |
