Hi I have few good quality 4 ohms sepaker but my new receiver "Pioneer VSX-1015" recomends only 8 ohms. Can I connect two 4 ohms in seris for each channel to match the 8 ohms impedende???? Please help I love those old speakers don't want to through them
Connecting them is series should bring the overall impedance up to a safe level. However, keep in mind speakers are not just 4 or 8 Ohms. The actual impedance the amplifier sees will vary across the frequency response of the system. Until you are reasonably certain the amp is secure with both sets of speakers connected, keep the volume down and watch for signs of distress from the amplifier.
Well said Jan! On another note according to page 9 in the 1015's owners manual you may use speakers with a nominal impedance of 6-16 ohms. Page 71 explains how to set the receiver to power speakers less than 8 ohms.

Thanks Jan and Chris. My room is not very big so volume never goes so high.
