swi7ch Unregistered guest | Hi all, I am SO glad I found this site! Since today is Sunday and Cox Communications is closed, I can't wait to get an answer to my question. I am a digital cable subscriber from Cox and I am renting their box for use on ONE TV. However, since my sister moved in with me (temporarily), I bought her a TV yesterday and using a 2-way splitter, hooked-up that TV to get the basic (local channels) and expanded (ESPN, MTV, Cartoon Network, etc.) cable service from Cox. Now I know I won't be able to get all the channels that I'm getting in my main TV because the channel selection on the other TV goes up only to 116 so I figured I have to get a digital cable box. So I looked at the digital cable box that I'm renting from Cox and noticed that it's made by a company called General Instrument (see picture below). Now, out of curiosity, I typed that on eBay and was happy to know that a lot of people are selling the same model. Now here's my question - can I just go ahead and purchase one and magically the TV in the other room will get ALL the channels that I'm getting in my main TV? Or do I have to "factory reset" it or something? Or do I have to call Cox and tell them to activate the new unit? Or is this completely useless since cable companies deem this illegal? Thanks in advance! |
Digital Dave Unregistered guest | Your cable Co will have to activate the box you buy on e-bay to make it work, that's if they allow you to own your own box. I called my cable co (Adeliphia)and they won't let me own my digital box, cost me about $5.00 a month. So you have to call them and if they let you buy your own you have to get the correct model number. |
Vicus Unregistered guest | Hi i live in a country were everything illegal is legal. A country where you can buy your way to success. Welcome to the philppines. Over here half of thepopulation doesnt pay for cable. I practically grew up thinkin cable was part of the local channels. So how is this possible? I'll tell you because i cant be greedy bout it. Let me just inform swi7ch that he should not waste his money on that box. I dont know for sure how ur cable connection is over there but i'm sure your not the only one with cable over ther. All you gotta do is find the main distributor wire which is usually a couple of yards away from themain sattelite dish and wala welcome to theworld of free cable. Another option is to tap from an already paying client. For more info contact me on runs4slic@yahoo.com |
