_______________ WELCOME _______________

You're a newbie and you have no idea where to begin? Well, this is a good place to find some links to what you need to get you going. First of all, don't believe that hacking (testing) Bev is cheap and reliable, it is not. Some testers spend more on gears than for their subscription. You must consider testing as a hobby and a challenge or you're not going to have fun.

There are roughly six platforms (methods) for testing Bev. The most popular are Avr, Atmega, Emulation, Plastic and DVB cards. Below is a Pros and Cons for each platform. It's your choice to go with the platform that offers what you're looking for: ease of use, cost, or reliability.

AVR
The Avr is used in conjunction with your smart card. You simply put your smart card on or in the Avr and insert the combo in the receiver.
Pros: Easiest platform and cheapest if you don't take into account the cost of your subscription.
Cons: A susbscription is required (not required if the receiver has been subbed in the past). The Avr's older design makes it less flexible for future developments, but right now, it keeps on going.
Latest Guides & Files:
- Download jEEPers 2.1.2 Build 020
- LazyBoyz1 and put in jEEPers folder
- Start jEEPers.
- In "Program", select "Lazy Boys 1".
- Click "Full Monty".

- Avr Guide
Atmega
The Atmega is similar to the Avr in the way it operates, but it is more powerful.
Pros: No subscription and no smart card (CAM) required. Easy to set up. More flexible than the Avr for future developments.
Cons: Rather vulnerable to ECMs like AVRs. You need to know your receiver's boxkey - an electronic signature of your Ird - which can be obtained with a JTAG reader.
Latest Guides & Files:
- Download jEEPers 2.1.2 Build 020
- Download chaaternutv11 and put in jEEPers folder
- Generate a valid ROM3 CAM ID with sCAMmer v2.

If you don't know how to program, take a look at nettoyeur's Nnw21 newbie guide.
- Atmega Guide
Emulation
Emulation is a platform that emulates the smart card. It involves linking a computer to an Avr in the receiver.
Pros: No subscription and no smart card required. More reliable than the Avr and the Atmega.
Cons: Fairly complicated. Cumbersome setup, requires that you connect a cable from your computer to the Avr in the Ird when you watch TV. You need to know your receiver's boxkey.

Plastic
Also called Rom3 or Rom10 depending on the CAM version, the Plastic platform is simply a regular smart card that has been reprogrammed.
Pros: No subscription required. Very reliable platform. Not expensive. Totally discreet: it's just a regular CAM, no device attached. You couldn't tell... Programming Plastic is fairly easy these days.
Cons: You need to know your receiver's boxkey. If the CAM has been in the stream after Nov. 2002, it is marked. The new CAMs are factory locked. You can open a locked ROM10 yourself if it is at A3D or lower:
For version A3D:
Bev A3D Opener
For version A3B and lower:
- A HU Loader + the Mighty Loader software + flashes;
- An ISO programmer + AVR + na_snake.
The usual method to program Plastic is with an ISO programmer but some had success with a HU Loader.

DVB Cards
A Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) card is a computer video card that, once configured properly, lets you receive Bev's programming without the need of a receiver. You just need a dish.
Pros: No subscription required. Very reliable platform. Let you record everything on your computer, like a Personal Video Recorder.
Cons: Fairly complicated. You have to watch TV on your computer monitor or have a cable from computer to TV.

Satellite Tuner Cards

Bev sometimes send ECMs (Electronic Counter Mesures) in the stream to disable testing devices. In order to block these ECMs, some testers will tell you to install a Digital Lock in your receiver.

If you can't get your platform to work, take a look at the Troubleshooting section below.

_______________ QUICK-TIPS _______________
Refreshing your TSOP:
(Set your IRD to "Download without permission")
1- Hook jTag and open jKeys.
2- Hit "Flash Programming" button.
3- In the drop down menu, right upper hand corner, change "FULL" to an SA address specific to your IRD:
.......... 3100 = SA3 in flash 1
.......... 2700/2800/3700 = SA5
.......... 3800/3900/4700/4900 = SA30
.......... 5100/5800 = SA54 in flash 2
.......... 6000 = SA30 in flash 1
4- Click on Erase (erase 3 times to be sure).
6- Plug ird in the stream and let it update (Don't touch it until it's finished! Usually takes 5 to 15 minutes).
7- Might have to do the "Check switch": Menu>6>1>1>Check Switch>Check.
8- Watch tv.
If you can't get your jTag cable to work or you don't have one, try the Junk Yard fix. (A last resort fix.)

Buying a new IRD: : Look for an open CAM.

Verifying if your Lock is working: To test the EEPROM lock: With the EEPROM lock active, edit a Favorites list and save. Unplug receiver, plug back in. Look at your Favorites; If your modifications were not saved, your lock is working. To test the TSOP lock: First make sure you have a backup of your TSOP. Then with the TSOP lock active, try to erase the TSOP with your JTAG cable.

Forcing an Upgrade: Select "Download without my permission", save, power off with remote or IRD button, wait for 30 mins, power on. Re-check "Ask permission before downloading" if you want. Adult channels might now be locked out, so if you want to access them, go in Menu to unlock them.

Hard Reset: Press "Menu", "6", "3", then quickly, "Info", Right Arrow, Left Arrow (this should bring you to Memory Dump screen), "TV/Video". You will get a message saying "Non volatile memory is corrupted..." From there unplug for 10 seconds and plug back. Don't forget to re-check "Ask permission" if you want that option.

What version is my CAM?: S0452 xxxx xx and up they are ROM 10/11. Below that number they are ROM 3. More here.

Quick Guide display to a specific hour:
Go to Guide. With the numeric pad, enter number of hours you want to jump forward, then press right arrow.

Avoiding ECMs when you don't watch TV:
As dooper suggests: "If you are concerned that Bev might be about to put an ECM in the stream, because there's a big event such as Wrestlemania coming up, just leave the irds on an unencrypted channel such as 350 or one of the Galaxie music channels." You could pull your card but the aforementioned method is easier and your card's contacts don't get worn out.

Troubleshooting

This post is based on YOUR INPUT, so please contribute!

Here are solutions to the most frequent problems. Your problem may require a different solution. If your answer is not here, do a SEARCH on this site by clicking the Search button at the top of the page. Still no answer? Start a New Thread by clicking the New Thread button, and post your problem.
__________________________________________________

- My receiver displays the Error 104 message: "A serious problem has been detected in your receiver", and/or I'm left with channels 317 or 53 only.
Your IRD has been ECMed. This is often refered to as "Location ID 00000001" - a hint of an ECMed receiver that shows on your TV when you hit the "Sys Info" button on your remote. To cure this ECM, you'll have to restore your Tsop and reprogram your platform with the latest fix if available. See the top of this thread or the Files section for the latest fixes for each platform.
First, here's how to refresh your TSOP:
(Set your IRD to "Download without permission")
1- Hook jTag and open jKeys.
2- Hit "Flash Programming" button.
3- In the drop down menu, right upper hand corner, change "FULL" to an SA address specific to your IRD:
.......... 3100 = SA3 in flash 1
.......... 2700/2800/3700 = SA5
.......... 3800/3900/4700/4900 = SA30
.......... 5100/5800 = SA54 in flash 2
.......... 6000 = SA30 in flash 1
4- Click on Erase (erase 3 times to be sure).
6- Plug ird in the stream and let it update (Don't touch it until it's finished! Usually takes 5 to 15 minutes).
7- Might have to do the "Check switch": Menu>6>1>1>Check Switch>Check.
8- Watch tv.
If you have problems using your jTag cable or don't have one, try the Junk Yard Fix - This is considered a last resort fix.

- When programming my Atmega128 in jEEPers, I get the message "Atmel not a part of Atmega128".
Download jEEPers 2.1.2 Build 020.

- Testing with AVR, my IRD won't power on.
Model 3100 resuscitation.

- I get a black screen, although I have Info and Guide available.
More then often a key problem. Make sure you entered your boxkey correctly. Make sure you get the current keys, select correct public key, no "letter o" in place of zeros. Make sure you selected the correct Board or try another one (CLK18.000Mhz / CLK18.432Mhz, etc.) Rewrite eeprom. Be patient, keys sometimes take a while to appear in the stream, seconds to one hour.

- I get the "Error erasing flash/eeprom" message in jEEPers, followed by "Check fuse/lock bit settings".

- My signal is oscillating between 0% and Normal.

- My programs don't work with Windows XP.
Right-click on the program's icon > Properties > Compatibility > Choose Windows 98.

- I get "Failed to enter program mode" in jEEPers.
Make sure your Avr/Atmega is inserted correctly in the programmer. Put a business card on top to help make contact. If you use a laptop, in jEEPers>File>Preferences, LPT, select "0x3BC" or other. Make sure the Atmega has its jumper on. Another solution here. If you have a Dell computer, click here.

- Some channels are missing.
Set your Ird to take the latest firmware. See "Model Specific" section below for current versions. Go to Menu and unlock all channels. Also could be a Blackout string issue. Or you just aligned your dish to the Nimiq2 sat. Missing Channels thread.

- Time is not right.
Enter the following zip code when programming (along with correct time zone): BC=5500; Alberta=5000; Sask=4700; Man=4500; Ont=2000; Que=2000; Mar=100; Nfdld=0 Why these numbers?

- I forgot my password.
If you don't want to erase your preferences by doing a hard reset, get into the memory dump screen by doing Menu>6>3> then pressing Info>Right>Left and scrolling down until you see location 01C0. The line will look like this:
01C0: xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx 1234xxxx
In this case your password would be 3412. (3rd and 4th digits become 1st and 2nd; 1st and 2nd become 3rd and 4th). For 3100 and 5100 it is line 320, 2nd column, 3x3x3x3x where X's represent the lock.

- No more sound!
Unplug your Ird for 30 seconds. If that doesn't work, do a Hard Reset: Press "Menu", "6", "3", then quickly, "Info", Right Arrow, Left Arrow (this should bring you to Memory Dump screen), "TV/Video". You will get a message saying "Non volatile memory is corrupted..." From there unplug your IRD for 10 seconds.

- When watching a channel I get the sound from another channel!
You probably recently accessed an Interactive channel; it's a bug with the machine, not testing related. Just unplug your IRD for 10 seconds.

- My remote doesn't work !
Remove card from IRD then power on. When on "Sys Info" screen, press the Record button twice on remote control. Or change the batteries... Another solution here.

- My 5100 keeps freezing.

- My Atmega freezes very often.
Once a day, don't worry. Like every hour to every minute? You might have to change the capacitors or the crystal on your Atmega.

- Using jKeys, I get "Error reading from IRD(DCU peak)".

My dish is working awesome. All it was I didn't give it enough time to come own. For some reason when you unplug it or power flickers it takes about 10 min. for picture to come own. I think it is a a2012 card. Don't know what that is but works fine.

I have a 3100 reciever, which used to work great and about 2 months ago it stopped working, giving me a mssg "smart card not insterted" everyone I know has got the same mssg. One of them got a new small wafer board to replace his card. Is that really neccessary or can my reciever be messed, or do I need a new card. I also have a bellexpressvu card that came with the rec, untouched, any alternatives?????? Please help..

You need to mod the 3100 by opening up the machine and you will see when you put the card in, a little spring is triiggered, once open, insert a piece of tape, or paper inbetween the contacts and that should solve the problem, the 3100's have anti AVR/Atmega, unauthorized card protection and this is the way around it!

I could give that a try I guess... But one thing I forgot to mention was that I'm using a blue dishnet card in the reciever, everytime I instert my original bellexpressvu card the reciever works but I only get 1 chanel, and when i put the dishnet card back in it gives me the same error "smart card not inserted correctly" could it be the card thats messed??

Check your azmuith and skew amgles for the 61.8 bird, Im not sure off hand what the numbers are, just do a google search on "Satellite look angle calculator or somthing like that, some recievers will give you all the info if you put in the zip code where you are at. You should be able to use any LNB from any system, they are all the same (Dish,Bell, Starchoice and the like)

Magicusertoo,

Thanks for your help. Does it mean that the receiver 2700 is not good anymore or the atmega128 card is not good anymore? if it is the card, what kind of card should we buy now so it will be working? thanks a lot again

If you were ruynning Atmega, there should not be a problem, If the Atmega programs OK then it should be fine, try newer software, and then look for a Rom 10 or a Magic Card, the rom2 and 3 will not work for too much longer.

Hi I have a dishnet D.P. 301 and running a atemega128 card in it from my local programing guy but lately getting a meassage about once a day telling me not to disturb the receiver because memory is being programed to my receiver ; it just comes on by itself and will not let me use any function on the dish short of unplugging it but now I just pull my card out and reinsert it and everything workins fine again am wondering if anyone else has this problem or if anything can be done to fix this ;My bell expressvu works fine on dishnet with the same card thank you ryszard

I am switching from dtv to dish net and I don't know anything about it. Will somebody please give me information like what programmer to use and/or info about flashing?

when I say programmer I mean the box that you use to program cards and I know that sounds stupid, but I don't know the proper terminology.

Hi, my adult channels were locked out and I was wondering if there is a universal or generic password that can be used to override the one that's been set. I have dishnet and bell express, so a solution to either or both would be greatly appreciated. If anyone can help me with this that would be great. BTW, I'm not some little kid, I'm 19, but my parents are just overly protective. Thanks.

Just wandering, starting yesterday our channels would freeze and if you changed the channel they would stay on for a second or two then freeze again then you were lucky to find a channel that was not black. Some channels will stay in but only a few. The majority of the channels are black the guide works we have reprogramed, not sure what else to do.

guys and gals the reason for all ur errors and black screens is because we have all been ecmd which means that charlie is upgading but if ur using a mc the fix will be out withing 48 hrs. just hang in there!

anonymous and hitmanric from what i know right now the atmega 128 and the mc are both doing the same thing they come up and down and freeze the screen turns black but some say that they will be doing that cause of the olympics just like last month. but eventually the fix will be out i am being told that by the end of the day. time will tell. one other thing is that the reason that some are getting tv and others are not is because charlie ecmd some paying clients and that they couldnt handle to number of calls,so he had to go to the old program i will ck it out later and post any findings.hope i shared some light on the problems!

Hey everybody..I am on BEV and using a 3100 and Atmega.
It's 6-15PM
I just heard that a huge ECM is coming.
WHy people are getting sgnals back..it's because BEV affected some paying members and they couldnt handle all phone calls so they put everyone's back..They are preparing something BIG so be ready...
If anyone has heard about anything, just let people know..

Eh Vancouver123
try this remote trick, it'll completely delete the passwords, but you get your adults.
hit MENU, 6, 3, within 4 secs press INFO then hit RIGHT (browse), and LEFT (theme). This should bring up a MEMORY DUMP screen. within this screen you can find lost passwords, etc... but its just easier to do the following: at that memory screen press TV/VIDEO, a message saying that all violated memory will be cleared once the power gets turned off......UNPLUG THE RECEIVER for 15 seconds. plug the receiver in, let it download everything, and your have your adults. THIS ALSO WORKS FOR ANY VIDEO/AUDIO NAGS THAT PEOPLE MAY BE HAVING.

^^^I forgot to mention that the remote code usually works on ANY receiver^^^

Soon as the page comes up look to the right as you scroll down. It is in the little message boards. You have to open them and in their will be an upload. The guy is talking about the blackout patch and how to use it.

I think I've found what you were talking about... Was it the Rom 2 discussion thread? If so, this probably won't work for my Atmega 128 for Bev 3100 will it?

If it isn't this discussion thread you were talking about, I'm very sorry for being so dense... :-)

Hi posted this question on another site, but this is probably a better site to get an answer from.

bev card swap has started, they are going to narga 2 cards. I have heard very little about this nagra 2 card. Can it be hacked? Is it being used any where else in the world and have they had any luck cracking it?

Will they and have they started swapping charlie cards yet?
thanks

I have a BEV 3100. The guide is showing all of the chanels, and I can go into them. I simply don't get any video or audio. I did have a signal strength of 100%, after going out and hitting it, it's now down to 87%. I still have no stations. I used the menus to run a factory reset. Still nothing. I'm getting all the info about the show, but no show! HELP!!! (It worked last week, but not tonight.)

hi guys! i am having the same proplem as i_am_new, the signal strength is there and so is the info, but all get is a black screen except for the interactive channels and the music stations. the guy that had done my card passed away in a fire, so i have no clue what was done to my card in the first place. i have a 3100 reciever and a RCA dish.was just goin to call bell and get a subscription till i found this site. can anyone tell me if this is a problem i can fix on my own, or if it is somethin that will hopefully go away and i can get my tv back? cause i dont have the first clue about dishes. if it is something i can fix on my own, will i need to download anything or need any equipment to do so. sorry for all the dumb questions, but i seriously know nothing about this sort of stuff! thank you.

Lonewolf that is a great site dude. I checked it out and they have their act together.

But like I said if you want to keep your tv going you might as well take off your ppvs and watch a platinum sub. If not you are going to get ecmed weekly. Mine has been up no for 6 weeks like that. Everyone else around here maybe a week if their lucky with ppv.

hey walter still around i see, listen the first time i got my dish working it lasted almost a whole month with ppv and everything wide open then got hit,but within 24 hrs the guys at mc got the updated info up. but i havent heard of this platinum sub, what is it and how does it work? currently i am running a 2700 ird with a mc. thanx and nice hearing from u!!!

I have a 2700 with 2800 updates. I really don't know how it was done. I get locals and everything but ppv. It is kinda like the showcard that I had for Dtv. It lasted two years before the stream went down. I wish I could tell you how. But I do think it has something to do with tiers. Go in Nagra edit and make a tier list and leave off ppv and I think it might be done that way not sure.

lonewolf
Unregistered guest
walter yes ur right on the tiers for locals but the mc u can program the channels that u want and from what i heard this last update program for the mc should be the last one cause it is made to keep rolling when ecm is dispursed. but i like my ppv and the rest of the channels i get.

I've asked this question in a few other forums. Maybe someone here can help me?

Using a Rom10 clean Image, and blockers nbcbevv1 and 4 (in Nagraedit), after writing to card, the card is at rev A3D. I understand the concept behind the REV change and trying to fool BEV, so please don't tell me it's supposed to change from A16. I know this. What I'd like to know is why I'm getting rev A3D? With this same procedure I ALWAYS got rev A3B. Can anyone tell me what has happened to my card? Why does it revert to A3D and NOT A3B? Even when cleaning the card back to A16 and trying again, it doesn't go to REV A3B. Does anyone know how I can get it back to A3B?
Yes, I know A3D can also work, but now I don't get PPV or adult (anything you need to purchase) because of this.

Can anyone shed some light on the subject before I go out and buy a new card?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

PS. Yes I'm using the new blackout fix too

I have read everything I can get my hands on from this site and others BUT STILL HAVING TROUBLE FINDING DISHNET 119.Im in Haliburton ontario aprox 125 miles north of Toronto.I live in a pretty wooded area.I have by luck a nice little cut in the southern sky.I currently get DTV by sub at 39 degrees elevation.I get Bell at 35 degrees elevation.I have a 24 inch dish with a dish lnb and a expressvu dish. The dish is working for bell but I cant find dish. All 3 of my dishes are on the roof of the house.Dishnet calls for a elevation of about 26 degrees.I am beginning to conclude that I cant get the signal because of the lower elevation that dish needs???Before I give up I was hoping if someone might offer some guidance.I have a DP301 013 that I got off ebay,I dont have the proper remote using cheep rca universal that doesnt do everything. The point dish screen says Dish 500 and theres a checkmark on 119. any suggestions?I think its the elevation that wont allow me to get dish.Does it make sense that I can get the other 2 but not Dish.I have rigged up a large wooden ladder on my roof, the Dish im using is about 4 ft higher than the other 2 dishes.Thanks.

Anonymous

Nobody wants to answer my question???Perhaps it was to long I will try again.Does it sound likely that the lower elevation of the Dishnet satellite is the reason I cant get the signal?I get DTV AND EXPRESSVU from the same location.I have raised the DISH FOR Dish 4 feet higher than the others. All 3 dishes are on my roof.DTV from my location is at 39 degrees elevation,Bell is at 35 degrees and Dish is at supposedly 26 elevation, maybe even between 22 and 26 from info I get.Im in Haliburton aprox 150 miles North East of Toronto.ANY INFO WOULD BE APRECIATED.I HAVE READ ALL INFO I CAN FIND HERE.perhaps you only offer help to some people????

I got my dishnet going in Ontario,no thanks to anyone here.I figured it out myself, only took me 6 days.110 seems to be a bit dull though.119 seems to have all the good stuff.Im bringing it in on a 20 inch star choice dish with a DTV single lnb.The second,110 is coming in on a rca 18 inch dss dish that i found at the dump.Very strange elevations for Dish as far as im concerned.Just thought id let you all know that i managed it with no thanks to any of you guys. Not a single person responded. Does anyone know what the penalty is for running BEV in Canada is without SUB?not that I expect a reply

anonymous,i do apologize for no one responding to ur question but if i understand u correctly ur 110 is comming in but it is of poor quality is that correct? have u tried to change the transponder by going into the setup menu and ckng the switch it should read 110 even 110 odd and the same for 119 it sounds to me u just need to manually change the transponder signal to ur 110 sat til u recv a strong signal and see if that will do the trick if not u may need to purchase a dual lnb. concerning ur second question sorry to say i dont know what the penalty is but from everything i have heard it could be very expensive, just keep it to urself. hope i helped u out a bit and good luck!!!!

Thanks original lone wolf for responding.actually im getting 119 and 110 perfect.when i said 110 was kind of dull, i meant the channels im interested seem to be on 119,NOTHING ON 110 .thanks though.I had my tongue firmly in cheek when i was complaining about not getting any help.i had asked in several posts with no response,THATS LIFE.
