Silver Member Username: CoryCanada Post Number: 114 Registered: Jan-05 | HI all I got 2 MTX 8000 10" subs in a ported box connected to a MXA 4001 amp into 2ohms and gain set to half way on the amp The subs sound fine at low volumes but when there is mid to high excursion from the sub it makes a sound thats if its pharting Why are the subs sounding like that? is there a defect or bad box? |

When the cross over is at higher level say around 150 and the sub is forced into to doing some excursion at say 3.5mm each way it will start to have this heavy breathing sound and a high pitch muffeled one as well. But when I set the cross over to 50Hz its not as bad but can still be noticed when at mid to high volumes |

Listen carefully to the music, and see if you can hear distortion or not. If it's bad enough you should be able to. I know there's someway to meter if your amps are clipping, not sure what you gotta do though. I would probably think of getting a bigger amp though. |

If your looking for something somewhat in the w7 league, and with awsome sq, look into the w6v2's. They're supposedly the best sounding subs out there right now. You can also try Image Dynamics IDMAX, their known for their exceptional Sound quality. |
