I have a sony stereo reciever that puts out 80 watts at 8 ohms. For the last year i've had one channel wired to 4 ohms pushing a 10" sub. I don't how it hasn't burnt out, but it sounds good. I want to get a new sub and i like the Alpine type R. MY question is should i get the 2 or 4 ohm DVC. I know I can wire the 2 ohm in parallel to get a 4 ohm load. But can I just use one voice coil on the dual 4 ohm version to power it. The R says 150 watts to each coil, my reciever will put out about that at 4 ohms. All help appreciated
hi daniel, you should never run only one coil in a dvc woofer so no that would not work. as far as wiring, it is "series",(not parallal), when you want to double your impedence. and your right, the 2ohm dvc would come out to a 4ohm load wired in series. i dont know anything about your amplifier but if if a 4 ohm load is what you want there you have it l8r bro
btw, 150 watts seems a little low for a type r... although it might be enough for it in your application.
