DVI Connection Not Working

Need info from anybody on using a DVI cable between my Hitachi 50V500 and Scientific Atlanta 8000 HD Cable box. Cable company is Adelphia. I don't get a picture through the VID1 setting. Component cables work OK. Any ideas?
