is it a good idea to have two subwoofers instead of just one? I would have one in each corner instead of one in one corner, of a rectangular room.

Dual subs are said to give more "even" coverage with less chance of peaks or nulls in the room. You may still gain better sound by moving your subs(s) out of the corner(s). Don't be afraid to experiment with placement.
