Best Vinyl Record Cleaning Brushes to Buy in 2025

Looking to preserve your records for a lifetime of listening? A quality record cleaning brush is the first step. Here are our top picks that are definitely worth trying.

Pro-Ject Brush it Cleaning Vinyl Record

Do you really need a record cleaning brush? Only if you don’t hate your records, your stylus, or your mother. Skipping this simple step is a fast track to ruining both your collection and your gear. Keeping your vinyl clean isn’t just good practice—it’s essential for preserving sound quality and extending the life of your records and stylus. A good record cleaning brush is an essential tool for audiophiles and vinyl collectors, ensuring your albums remain free from dust, dirt, and grime that can degrade sound quality over time.

Some might “bristle” at the idea of spending a lot of money on a record cleaning brush, but this is a case of being “penny wise, pound foolish.” If you’ve already made the investment in a turntable, phono preamp, records, and a quality cartridge, why skimp on the little things that help preserve and extend the life of your setup?

Do you own a pet? Smoke? Live in a dusty environment? Spend rainy Saturdays rummaging through record bins at your local shop—or reading in bed with a wonderful woman who has a soft spot for Biltong?

A clean stylus not only sounds better, but it also lasts longer. And that should be the ultimate goal: to ensure that all the time, money, and effort you’ve put into building your record collection setup continues to reward you with years of great sound.

Factors to Consider When Buying a Record Cleaning Brush:

Price vs. Features: While many record cleaning brushes are affordable, some higher-priced options come with additional benefits, such as dual-sided brushes or a complete cleaning system.

Material: Look for brushes with soft, high-quality fibers like velvet or carbon fiber. These are gentle on vinyl and won’t scratch or damage the grooves.

Anti-Static Properties: Many brushes offer anti-static features to help prevent dust from accumulating after cleaning. This is especially important for preserving sound quality.

Ease of Use: Consider the ergonomics of the brush. A comfortable grip makes cleaning easier and more efficient, especially during extended use.

Any negatives?

Record cleaning brushes might not be as thorough as deeper cleaning solutions (like wet cleaning systems), and manual cleaning can take more time compared to automated machines.

All of these options deliver excellent cleaning performance, and your choice ultimately comes down to style, budget, and how involved you want your cleaning routine to be.

Pro tip: Pair any of these brushes with a stylus cleaner and anti-static inner sleeves for even better protection and playback quality.

Too many options and none of them are superior to a good cleaning machine.

I do like the TTL brush and the kits.

I agree that investing in better quality sleeves makes sense.

Cleaning machines have become too expensive. I had a VPI HW16.5 for years and while it worked well…it was beyond noisy. It also went from $650 to $1,000 for no apparent reason.

I have a wet cleaner but use 3 of these brushes and fluids with every record. And that includes new ones that have some weird films on them from the pressing process. Craft and Blue Note are exceptions.
